  1. There are many gold-pegged cryptocurrencies already, but more are due to come. IMHO they are just a fad and as mentioned jumping on the bandwagon, there is no utility to them at all. Why trust one of the many operators instead of say the Royal Mint's vault storage, they offer bullion at or near spot and store for you right? this is no different. @SovereignSaurus Again I don't feel like it would be any different, you are still trusting a third party not to operate a fractional reserve, would you really trust a company over a government, aren't they just the same? 😄 Blockchain itself is and will change the world, the utility potential is mind blowing that many cannot even comprehend. All of these meme coins and games etc are just a part of the process, they will not survive of course but they don't need to, they are testing vehicles in a way.
  2. Yes I'll add that. In fact "prefixes" are an extension of the default "tags", and by default anyone can create a tag and use it, but I've removed that functionality for now in favour of a specified list that we can just build out. I looked into colouring them, it isn't possible with core but is possible with a paid extension, so can look at add that also in the coming weeks.
  3. Wow please do name and shame! Shocking to see that listed good condition and really not your mistake... But for sure this is as your describe, it's very clear to be honest. I love my varieties but I'm not familiar with pre-victoria but this is in the ref just without images as of yet: https://thegoldsovereign.com/coin/1102/1826-george-iv-gold-sovereign-london-6-over-small-6 A real shame it's a details coin to be honest 😞. I may have to trouble you for some excellent images with a proper lens if that's possible to use in the reference? In terms of price I can't see it being that much because of the condition, I mean it's a 4-500quid coin without the variety so maybe 6-700 but I don't think I would pay over 400 for a cleaned coin personally.
  4. I was having a discussion about this today and thought I was ask here to see if I'm missing something. I am a big proponent of blockchain technology, the problems it does and can solve. However I cannot stand products being created for the sake of a buzzword. I believe gold-pegged cryptocurrencies are exactly that, or am I missing something here? The so called benefits are cost of storage, ease of transfer and trade. Though you can easily trade paper gold already, don't have to own physical if you don't wish to. With gold-pegged cryptocurrency you still have third party risk as you don't actually own anything in my opinion unless it's in your possession. So what problem does this solve exactly?
  5. So I've updated the ranks to be a little more on topic, please let me know if I've missed any! As you can see I will also add images for each coin type, a fair bit of time needed for that though but will look better than the default icons even though you can't truly see the coins themselves, worth it?
  6. Yes I was impatient and bumped it to 4000px! Lets get some high res images shared 🙂
  7. Looks like you muddled up 1914 with 1915, those pop reports are now more aligned 🙂
  8. It all comes down to budget I think, do what makes sense for your budget and take it as far as you can over time 🙂 The more you collect the more you will learn and want to better your collection in the long run, that was my experience any way!
  9. Andrew, I've often seen some wild pop reports over at NGC, do you think there is any chance this is wrong? I don't often see the ratio so high, especially with top pop or high grade coins
  10. Spot the most expensive coin, no prizes 😄
  11. What level does everyone feel is good for image size? As big as possible would obviously be ideal but storage has to be a consideration at some point. I feel like this topic's image shows it needs to be bigger, when you click on it or open in tab you still cannot see the slab labels well.
  12. Some nice coins and some gap fills off to PCGS for crossing! If anyone has these coins in same grade or better and already in PCGS holder let me know
  13. @Mike @Jaconet Did you receive this book yet?
  14. Yes Happy New Year all! 🥳 Will look to push the site/forums in the coming weeks, had a good 3-4 weeks off due to covid and holiday period, back at it from tomorrow!
  15. I guess my discussions have been on a different topic to yours which is likely where he cannot be bothered. Things like sending in my labels for population removal, and discussions about my reference etc. I use International courier to send coins to the states just like anyone else 🙂 I've spoken with the now president about this and it is on their roadmap, but it has to be cost effective right, they were considering using a dealer in the UK but I've said imho is a very bad idea. They need to find someone trustworthy to pay a salary to, that will handle the processing of 1000s of coins, plus pay for premises rent in a central london location. Where is the money in doing this? It's probably why NGC UK is falling apart at the moment, the job cannot be fun or easy it's basically just painful admin and I doubt you'd fancy as a business hiring someone in another country on 20k/yr to handle that many coins!
  16. So I hear through the grapevine that Jamie is leaving at Christmas. I've never seen eye to eye with him, he has always been quite rude and never cared about coins or helping collectors, possibly due to the fact that comics are his thing not coins. I hear his replacement could be a downgrade not an upgrade, which could be quite worrying for those using NGC in the UK. Get your coins over the PCGS in the states guys!

    Covid 19

I am no expert but I had the same thoughts about this new variant, its a great thing yet not a single mention of that fact. We need more dominant and less deadly strain and now we have it, but lock it all down!! 🤭
  18. ha that's brilliant!, what auction house?
  19. This is an interesting point, how can we know the effect of the chemicals used in this processes in 10 or 20 years time? It is worrying that 100s of coins may be ruined just so NGC can make an extra few quid.
  20. Can't wait to get my lots now! Best get saving for part 2 otherwise I'll have to remortgage 😛
  21. This makes me want to get my 1853 full and check the cam, I've not looked at that coin for a good few years and it's one, if not my favourite.
  22. Really would like to know what chemicals they put on these coins, do you not feel it's removed all of the cameo?
  23. So these are your personal collection or you're looking to sell? I've just added a trade forum now so you can use that if you are looking to sell 🙂
  24. Do NGC actually cover transit of a 50k coin? For me popping coins in the post is worth the benefit of every area of service being better, I am very happy I went with PCGS over NGC and it was a big decision to make at the time
  25. Yes NGC have created a mess, a false market for many "so called" varieties because they are too lazy. They refuse to listen to people like me. I've put a lot of effort into this reference to hopefully remove the confusion with regards to varieties, PCGS have been very open regarding it but NGC rude and dismissive to be quite frank. Yea the software is amazing, this is a WIP but really quite cool, digital albums https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/europe/great-britain/british-victoria-sovereign-date-set-circulation-strikes-1838-1901/album/191325 PCGS have been super welcoming to the reference being created here, as it actually improves upon existing. I'm speaking with the software lead and we are on the same page with creating features better for the collector, not for money, which seems to ruin so many other areas of the industry. I only grade in the US with PCGS, I found that any coins I purchased on the open market that were graed Paris were as you say overgraded, they like to give MS62 to all shields for example regardless of the coin!. This is well known though and luckily the cert numbers are different so easy to spot, at least they were at the beginning. I think what matters to each collector changes through their journey, but I honestly feel that when you get towards the pinnacle of Sovereign collecting that you'll want to be with PCGS. It won't be long now before they have UK offices or even graders, I've had discussions with the now president about this and they want to make it happen but it has to be profitable with them. I really hope they do not use a dealer for the service (which is on the table), but do it themselves.
