Victoria - Jubilee Head
The Queen Victoria Sovereign would be remodelled in 1887 to commemorate Victoria’s Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary). The obverse of the coin features an elderly Victoria, aged 68, designed by famed engraver Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm RA (6 July 1834 - 12 December 1890). The engravers initials can be found on the bust's truncation.
This Sovereign’s most unique feature is the use of an upright axis, known as En Medaille. Other identifiable features include references to Victoria’s title as Empress of India. The reverse of the Sovereign displays Benedetto Pistrucci's legendary St. George design, with his initials at the base. This Sovereigns production period would last from 1887 to 1893.
