Victoria - Young Head (St. George)
Queen Victoria can be considered one of the most influential monarchs in British history, and therefore the the Sovereign's minted during her reign are considered the most sought after by collectors. The front of this Sovereign features the "young head" portrait of Victoria with a large ponytail and hair tied into a double fillet. The design also features milled edges in a linear circle on the side of the coin. The mintmark of the producing Mint, if produced outside of Britain, is present underneath the bust of the Queen.
Any design of the Young Head sovereign from 1871 to 1887 features the St. George and the Dragon design designed by famed engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. Pistrucci’s initials are engraved at the base of the design.
