Victoria - Old Head
The Jubilee Sovereign would be replaced by the new Widow bust or Old head design in 1893. The sovereign was designed by Thomas Brock (1847 - 1922), which is evident through his initials below the bust. The front of the Sovereign also makes explicit reference to Victoria’s title as Empress of India.
The reverse of the sovereign would display Benedetto Pistrucci's famed St. George slaying the dragon design. The coin would also use an upright axis, known as En Medaille. Pistrucci’s design would be the last Sovereign produced of Victoria before her passing in 1901.
